I've been it this way also since I started quilted. I "map" out my pattern before beginning.

Been doing this for many years, did not now that it was not common either....I don't mark, if there is a "square" to eyeball I just go for it. If I want closer quilting I just go in-between the lines...very simple way to quilt if you think about it.

Today I would use a drop of Elmers glue on the layers in place of the pins. Have done this stitching also and it works out very nice.

I did a cheater quilt like that. Crib size. Didn't really think anything about it. When you look at the video you can back up. Just take your cursor over the bar.

I haven't yet tried this method.But let me venture a guess anyway.I bet you got lost when you ran out of lines to stitch when you turned it.She said in that case just start in another corner.I will try this sometime and see how it works.Goin on my bucket list.

I always sewed any cross hatch patterns for pocket books this way I just didn't know that it was a technique LOL

I just watched the video and wouldn't dare do a full size quilt like that. I think her sample would have turned out better and smoother with a walking foot. I have never done cross hatching.
