Love your quilts, all of you. There is just something so comforting and soothing about scrappy quilts. I really enjoy seeing all these gorgeous creations, thank you to all who have, and will be adding to this gallery of art.

This thread is so interesting (and long). Here's my second comfort quilt for the year.

Finished these at the end of 2013. One is scrappy and one is more controlled. This is the first quilt I have ever designed even though I've been piecing for ten years.

Gigigray, love your scrappy moderns! They are so fresh and crisp looking and yet they have the warm coziness of a scrappy. Well done!

Thank you Krystyna. I use a lot of bricks (3 1/2 x 6 1/2) and 2 1/2 inch strips because those are the sizes I cut my scraps. I also tend to make quick and easy patterns for the comfort quilts so I can get more done. Last year our group donated 122 comfort quilts to the local cancer center for adult patients and we didn't have enough to go around to all the patients.

I like the yellow one, where did you get the pattern?

Gigigray, I like your comfort quilt shown in post 2153. Could you share the size of the pieces?

Joselake, I made up the design but my friend Marjorie has it posted on her blog. http://b-quilts.com/blog/. Click on Shadowed Rail Fence Variation on the right side of the page. Our guild just used the pattern at our annual January retreat to make comfort quilts for cancer patients.

DDuMouchel I used bricks 3 1/2 x 6 1/2 for the rectangle pieces. I strip sewed the smaller blocks with sashing. White sashing is 1 1 /2 inches wide and the two colors on either side were 3 inches wide. I subcut the unit 2 1/2 inches wide. I sewed sashing ( 1 1/2 inches wide) to the large rectangle and then sewed the strip sewed subcut to this making the block 6 1/2 x 6 1/2 unfinished. (You could strip sew the sashing to the 3 1/2 inch strip but I already had my bricks cut). The placement of the blocks is totally random. I added 3 1/2 white border.
