I agree too. I was in a Batik Block swap awhile ago and definitely got NONbatik blocks. I can't use them in my Batik quilt..... (hope mine were ok)

All I can say is I agree also, batiks are batiks and I truly would not be happy to receive something else. Thank you for sticking with the rules that you set, it is much appreciated here!

I had all my batiks kept apart from the other fabrics because I noticed that some will mimic them, the best way I have been able to tell is: batik color and pattern movement is on both sides but the mimic is only really bright and true on one side, does this sound right? I had help packing up my sewing room when we moved so my batiks have to be resorted again : ( . So hopefully my description is correct? because that is what I am going by to get them resorted lol

That sounds right to me Short an Sweet. Jane will be able to tell you though, she owned a quilt shop for years, but think she had to go out of town for her job for a couple of days.

Jaba - you are right on with your description of a batik having the full color on both sides of the fabric, and that Jane (our resident expert on fabrics) is out of town (for work - boo, hiss)

Thanks gals. I've been in touch with swappers where there were issues. Fortunately there were only two. While this isn't an 'official' definition, Batiks have the color/dye completely penetrate and saturate the fibers which is why we see the same intensity of color on both sides of the fabric. Regular smooth fabric has the image printed on top then is heat set which is why we see a definite 'front and back' of a piece of fabric. But I'm preachin' to the choir, right??

The Quilt Police will deliver the rest of their report next week.

Thanks again, everyone for being so wonderful!!!

    Jane

    PS -

Thanks SherriR for the very thoughtful package!

Short an Sweet - your quilt blocks were fine. If there had been a problem, I would have contacted you.

There will be a slight delay with some swappers (I've PMed them) in delivering their quilt blocks. I'll get them in the mail this coming weekend.
