Oh, wow! Beautiful quilt. Did you say this is your first? I wouldn't even think about making this. Good job!

I would stitch in the ditch (SID) first and then if you feel comfortable I would free motion around the applique to enhance it. SID is one of the first ways I attempted quilting on my machine.

BUT be sure you sandwich it without any wrinkles. I use the school glue method now and that has helped keep it from moving while quilting. Take you time when you sandwich...I thought is would be quick and easy when I first started, but taking time to be sure it is smooth is worth it.

You have done a great job...you must be so happy! I like that pattern too.

This is beautiful. I agree with the others, keep the quilting simple to let the blocks shine.

    Wow! Stunning quilt!

You probably want to highlight the center medallion...thus quilt the print surround it, and also the wide border of the same fabric. Something swirly in the wide outside border.

SITD around the narrow borders, and the next border out from the medallion. Also SITD around the large squares and the diamonds in the center of each side. I can't decide if you should quilt the smaller squares that are towards the outside. Probably do something more detailed there?

    Have fun deciding!

Wow, that quilt has a lot to it. I bet it wasn't boring to make. It turned out absolutely wonderful!

Very nice! I would echo or stipple the background on the applique to help it stand out. Typically on sampler type quilts people do a different motif in each block according to what the block inspires. On the repeated blocks, the large triangle squares, I'd think of some geometric type pattern that would not stand out much.

Really nice! Especially for a first (major) quilt.
