    Default Quilts WITHOUT borders

Hi all. I am thinking of making a twin quilt for my granddaughter but instead of adding borders I want it to be ALL squares with sort of a scrappy look. Have any of you done this without the borders? Were you happy with the results? She wants purple and blue so I would mix it up with different prints of each color. Thanks in advance for your feedback and happy sewing!

I make more quilts without borders than with them. I think it gives a more modern look to the quilt which I prefer. I just add the binding to the quilt as usual. If you google 'modern quilt' you will see lots of examples of quilts without borders.

My latest "thing" is quilts without borders! Just be sure your squares are cut on the straight of grain so they don't go wavy on the edges.

Look at pictures of rag quilts. They are just squares with no borders. They look great.

Quilts without borders is not a new idea. I have several old quilts, made by my Great, and Great Great Grandmothers without borders. My Grandmother (she is 105) refuses to use borders. She say's the borders just have too many wobbles (her words) to ease in. LOL

I almost always use a border only when I need to size up a quilt - and then I usually just use my background color so that the quilt design just floats in there. Just a personal preference.

I rarely use borders too, usually just when I need to expand a quilt's size somewhat. Sometimes they're there as part of the design but usually they're just making space!

The more I'm getting into FMQ, the more I find I am wanting to add borders though, just so I can quilt in them!

I've seen plenty of quilts without borders, especially scrappy's. Have fun with it and remember to post a pic.

I only use borders when I made the quilt too small and need to fill it out. I prefer quilts without them.
