Using fleece as a backing for a quilt - no batting
I would like to use fleece as the back on a quilt but am worried about the stretch and the difference between the polyester fleece and the 100% cotton quilt top. I'll be quilting it on my Tiara - like the Handi-Quilter Sweet Sixteen it's a sit-down long arm. I'd like to glue baste it to the top with no batting. Anything I should be aware of? Will I have problems with it stretching or sliding all around while I'm trying to FMQ it? Nothing fancy - probably just a sort of stippling with some hearts or flowers or swirls all over. I'm sure there's someone on the board who has done this so I'm sure I'll get lots of expert advice!! Thanks in advance for any help!!

My very first quilt was a cotton top with a fleece blanket backing and no batting, because I didn't know better back then. I straight-line quilted it with a walking foot. It's my son's favorite quilt because it's so soft and drape-able, not stiff at all.

Not a problem at all ... like Peckish said, it's soft, drapes nicely .. and because of the polyester lightweight but heavy on warmth!
Here's a link to one I did, which may help answer some of your questions ...

I use fleece to back baby quilts all the time with no problems. I pin baste and fm quilt, sometimes from the front and sometimes from the back. I do it from the back when I want to do an all over design. Sometimes the quilt top will make it hard for me to do random all over quilting, I catch myself trying to follow the design of the top instead of being random.

I am working on one right now. I made the chevron stripes, then pieced using "sew and flip" through the fleece (camo design). I am also quilting as I go so when I'm done all I have to do is bind it. I have the next row partially pinned on to show how I am doing it.
