I have to take my janome back to the dr, The timing is off again (2nd time in 6 weeks) , I'm not sure what im doing to cause this, the first time I was trying to sew 2 layers of jeans, this time I was sewing 4 pieces of cotton, it made a noise, I stopped, turned it off checked everything then turned it on to start again, now the timing is off... Have them show you how to insert a needle. If it's not inserted correctly, it can throw the timing off. I can see sewing several layers of denim may cause an issue, but there should be no problem with 4 layers of quilting cotton. I'm wondering if there was completely fixed the first time.

Oh I'm so sorry this happen to you, I understand I did that two different times when I broke the needle it messed up my timing on my sewing machine. Do you have a warranty on it? Maybe you could take it back were you got it and tell them what has been going on with it. It may be the machine and see if they will replace it.

Don't let them blame you. Something doesn't sound right.

How old is your machine? There should be at least a 90 day service warranty -- as in 90 days of free service.

First thing to check when the "timing is out," is the needle. Replace it, so you know it's not bent. Then make sure the flat side is to the back, and pushed all the way up.

Sometimes what causes the timing to go out is running over those big "quilting" pins. If you have those, replace them with "patchwork" pins. They don't cause as much damage as those big "quilting" pins.

Another thing to check, is if your needle bar has forward/backward wiggle. The needle bar has to wiggle side to side. But if it wiggles forward and backwards, it was made very sloppy, and the timing will continue to go out, over and over again.

They have blamed me and therefore not covered under warranty. I've had this machine for a year, and I went to this dealer because he offered such a great warranty (10 years parts and labor) then I find out because it's out of time it is my fault and not covered.

I have the glasshead pins and very careful not to run over them, I will check the needle bar.

Thanks for for all your help.

I would call Janome and tell them your story. Let us know what happens, this shouldn't happen.

I have a tiny mirror I lay on the feed dogs when changing the needle.
and when sewing check ever so often to be sure the screw is still comfortable tight.

I'd definitely get a list of ways the timing can be thrown off from your dealer. And Never drive over any pins. ever.

I called janome, they were no help, she said take it back to the dealer and he could call their techs if needed. I told her I'm very disappointed to have paid this much for a machine that has a problem sewing 4 layers of cotton.
