I'm new to the 835 and I'm trying to embroider names. The thread keeps bunching up. Any tips?

That sounds like maybe stitch density needs to be adjusted. Hard to say without seeing it.

I really haven't used too many of the fancy stitches other than blanket stitch for appliqué. I did put names on a quilt label a couple times. Are you using a tear away stabilizer? Sometimes you need to use something to give the fabric a bit of firmness. I think I'd use the lettering more if I could make the font size bigger.

I know what you mean; when I got my Ruby, I was so afraid I would break something I pampered her for a while but now I'm truly enjoying her. You will too

Don't be afraid, just jump right in. You can learn as you go and enjoy each moment. My "new" machine is three months old (Brother Dream Machine VM6200D) and I am having a ball learning all the cool things it does. I took my hubby with me when I was looking and he was so impressed by the machine that he told me to go for it! (I am blessed!) Enjoy!!!!

Machines are like smart phones, they are way smarter then we are. Enjoy your beauty.
