I have used it in the sewing room for watching tutorials on youtube. Or in the kitchen for recipes.

The card is more than the kindle, is it necessary?

I have the Kindle Fire HD 7 and DH has the 9. He watches movies and listens to music, I read books and listen to music and watch utube videos. DH likes the browser (Silk) on the Fire and uses it all the time. I do prefer to hold a real book in my hands but when we moved I had to get rid of many of the books I had collected (I had close to 1000) because of lack of space. I have bought some of my favorite books as ebooks, but I also read ebooks from the library. I have a Kindle Touch, but because it is not back lit it is not as easy for these old eyes to read. If I could justify it, I would get one of the fires for $39 -- outstanding price for what you get.

I have an iPad...is this comparable? Are there any fees associated with purchase? Can it be used as my iPad is? Am thinking of ordering, but even for that cheap price want to make sure I get something for my $$$.

Kindle Fire is a tablet. No fees. It may come with free trail of Prime or Kindle Unlimited and you cancel those if you don't want it after the trail. And those aren't automatic. You will be asked if you want to continue. All you need is an Amazon account to register it. For a gift buy it unregistered, to do this select this is a gift when checking out.

Looks like some of you got a better deal than I did. Gave $59. Love it but battery sure runs down quick. Can anyone help me? I download free books from Amazon. How do I remove from the device? On my old Kindle it was simple.... thanks.....
