I cut binding and store the binding all together in a zip lock type bag. When I need them, I know where they are.

I only have 2 tops waiting to be quilted and I store them together with the backing.

I usually make the binding so I know I'm done with that fabric. Usually I worry about backings when I'm ready to sandwich, unless I decide to use leftover blocks or fabrics for the back. Then I prepare the back and put it with the top. As there is no sandwiching fairy, the pieces sit until I decide to face my least favorite part of quilting.

Since I put striped bias binding on almost all of my quilts I buy the binding fabric when I buy the fabrics for the top and backing. I make the binding as soon as I finish the top and keep it together if I don't finish the quilt right away.

It depends on the quilt - If I know that I want to bind it with a fabric in the top, then I'll cut and save it. Other than that, will just wait and decide on something later. Working on quilting a project that has been sitting for a while right now and contemplating what to use...

I used to store just the tops but that was before I retired. They were mostly simply pieced scrap quilts so finding a perfect binding was never an issue as almost any colour would work. Now I'm finishing up many (ok years worth) of BOM's and if I can't get it quilted as soon as I have finished the top, I store it with the backing, binding and pillowcases (I always make at least one or two to store my finished quilt). Then I either machine quilt it (on my Juki or my friend's LA) or give the whole stack to my guild for Community Quilts or QOV. I was lucky that I always stored enough fabric with the unfinished pieced blocks that matched for the binding and borders.

I currently have 5 tops that need to be quilted. So yes, I have quite a stash of tops. If a top is out of a layer cake or a printed collection, I usually put all the remaining collection with the top. But most of mine are scrappy batiks so, it doesn't matter about binding. Just the other day, I collected backs to go with the tops and they are all together in a plastic bin. One day, their time will come.

I usually make and store the binding with the quilt top. I started doing this after I almost cut the piece I planned to use for the binding and put it in another quilt. I would have been perfect for it too.

I have a short stack of big quilt tops. I don't cut any fabric for them until I am ready to sandwich and quilt. I don't worry about the binding until the quilt is quilted... then I decide what to use.
