Default Hand Applique Points and Curves

How to Hand Applique points and Valleys or
How I Solved my problems and learned to love Hand Applique

This may not be a new technique but being new to hand applique I found by trial and error that these steps work well for me. I hope others will find them helpful too.

I was asked how I get good points on my work. This is my explanation after many attempts.

1. Gather supplies and cut out your shapes

2. doing the points,
fold point in at minimum 1/2" and dab with glue pen,
hand press in place

3. folding edges to create point

fold one side to center for placement, dab glue and trim extra fabric
fold back into place, use a pin to manipulate into place.

repeat for other side

4.Use the narrow brush to paint starch along edge of straight parts and slight curves.

fold edge in and press. Do this all the way around the piece

5. Clip inside curve, dab with glue and finger press seam into glue,
continue with the starching.

Ready to baste

Pin piece in place and sew baste with a large stitch.
Sometimes the fabric will start to ripple.
Check this often. If it happens remove some pins &
smooth it out and continue sewing.

You are now ready to do the hand stitching. No pins!!! Hooray!!! Piece of cake!!!

Hope this helps any one trying hand applique for the first time.

peace to all

Thanks so much for taking all those pictures. I'm still learning how to applique (besides fusible) and I'm hoping this might work for me too.
