Default MSQC Double slice pattern ?

I want to use the new Holly Taylor fabric Town Square to make a queen size Double slice quilt for my son and his wife for Christmas. They were just married this summer. I have a couple of questions. How big a double slice quilt does a layer cake make? What size are the blocks? Do you think a queen size quilt using the Double Slice pattern would look nice?
Has anyone made a queen size Double Slice?
    Thank you for your help.

If you want to make a queen size quilt, you need to finish at 90x108. Do you want borders? If yes, the borders on Jenny's quilts in the video are really cute. In these calculations, I am assuming that there will be 3 borders that finish at 1.5" apiece.

You will need 3 layers cakes and 1 3/8 yards of coordination fabric for the borders and binding.

Make double slice blocks from all 3 layer cakes. You should have 126 total blocks. Set aside 27 blocks for the pieced borders. Set the remaining blocks 9 across and 10 down. The center should measure 81.5" x 99.5" through center.

Cut 10 2" strips from the coordinating fabric. Join strips to form 2 long 200" strips. Cut long strips as follows:
2 strips equal to vertical measurement of quilt (about 99.5")
2 strips equal to horizontal measurement of quilt plus 3" (about 84.5")
2 strips equal to vertical measurement of quilt plus 6"(about 105.5")
2 strips equal to horizontal measurement of quilt plus 9" (about 90.5")

Cut the remaining 27 double slice blocks into 2" strips. Avoid having seams close to either edge of slice. You should easily get 4 slices from each block, for 108 slices. Join vertical slices into 2 strips measuring 87.5" and 2 strips measuring 102.5".

Join 99.5" strips of coordinating fabric to sides of quilt center. Join 84.5" strips to top and bottom.

Join 102.5" strips of double slice segments to sides of quilt, and 87.5" strips to top and bottom.

Join 105.5" strips of coordinating fabric to sides of quilt, and 90.5" strips to top and bottom.

Thank you so much for your info. I think instead of the border Jenny has, I would use fabric. I was hoping to use only two layer cakes plus yardage for the border. Do you think two layer cakes would be enough?

Judging by Krisb's information, if you wanted to only use 2 layer cakes, you would have to have multiple borders to make the quilt queen sized or you will have one huge border. After looking at the pictures of this quilt, personally I think those with NO border look the best. I'm assuming that you have 2 layer cakes and don't want to buy more (totally get that as they aren't cheap!), but do you have some fabrics in your stash that you could use to make your own layer cakes with that would mesh well with the layer cakes you have purchased for this quilt?

After thinking this through, I have decided to use 3 layer cakes. One of the reasons being that I think the quilt pattern looks really nice if the colors blend or are of a similar value. Just my opinion from looking at a lot of double slice quilts in Google images or Pinterest.

I too, am making this quilt. I have two layer cakes, but also have a jelly roll, so I am hoping that will be enough for a queen quilt. Krisb, I love your info. So glad to have someone as helpful as you are. Thank you.

Wow, Krisb, what a great response - so much information! I have definitely saved it for "later".
