I made potato bags, and had the burning problem as well. I thought maybe I had mistakenly used polyester thread or something, so I bought a new bag of Wrap and Zap. Interesting update on that product--it now has a warning to NOT microwave for more than 2 minutes at a time, or for more than 8 minutes total. In cooking potatoes, I'd routinely set the microwave for 6-8 minutes--not any more! Small bowls, likely used for reheating for only a minute or so, would probably be much safer.

I may have missed it in the directions - but did you sew around the circle that was drawn on the batting? Thinking of making some of these for Christmas.

    Thanks!

When I learned to make these at sewing store ...we were told to only use 100% cotton batting
and that most battings say they are all cotton, but they are not....Instructor told us to use
Wrap & Zap as it was 100% cotton....You can get this in small packages at JoAnn's.....She
also said not to leave in microwave more then 4 minutes, which seems to be plenty of time for
    reheating.

I use mine all the time...will be making more for Xmas
