I was going to suggest that also. And try herb goat cheese in your "samich."

I did tell her today and she appreciates everyone's good thoughts. She doesn't know when she will be back on here.

My son cooked bacon today. I got hungry and this thread made me want a grilled cheese sandwich. So, instead of putting butter on the bread, I just fried it up in the leftover bacon grease in the skillet. I am ashamed to admit just how good it was!

(Also missing Jan here as well, hope things get better for her.)

yes mam! I keep a little container of bacon grease in the fridge...can't beat that flavor......now here's a heart stopper..I remember as a kid, when bacon was fried, fresh bread was dunked in it and salt sprinkled on top...a treat!

Wow, I thought my Aunt and I were the only ones who did this! My Aunt and my Gram would put a little bacon grease on their baked potato. Mom always keeps it around to flavor her fried potatoes and eggs.

I'd love a grilled cheese, but not allowed for me. Missing Jan too!

There is nothing more comforting than a grilled cheese sandwich and tomato soup. Unless, of course, it's mac & cheese!!!!

Ain't that the truth! Wish either/both were options for me. Sadly only on very special occasions.

Aw, the tin of bacon grease that sat on the stove or in the refrigerator... I know it got added to fried potatoes and green beans, but I have no idea what else mom/gramma used it for. My dad does almost all the cooking now for my mom (she got spoiled!) so she doesn't have the tin of grease anymore.
