Default Ideas for college graduate(girl) gift?

Looking for an idea for something I can make my niece for her college graduation. We are not super close (and she lives out of state) but I would like to make her something nice that can be finished within a month.. I don't really know her likes and dislikes.....So I am thinking NOT a quilt.....
    Thanks.....

I have three nieces and they all seem to like different things. One is a true minimalist and one likes Victorian clutter. Cash is always the right size and the right color. I know, it's frowned upon but afterall, it's something a new Graduate can really use. If you really want to make something, try a throw size quilt. You might ask her mom if she has a favorite color and go from there.

Perhaps an uncomplicated tote bag or 2-3?? She could use them shopping; traveling; a multitude of uses. Would not have to be a complicated pattern at all. Or a wallet/cellphone holder? Just what comes to mind quickly.

Being a young college grad maybe you might want to make her a duffel bag or some type of tote. Here are some duffel bag patterns from craftsy.

I have a DGD graduating from high school. I'm making her a pattern called Two + 2 by Laughing Lizzies Patterns. It's all based on 2 1/2" strips so it's jelly roll friendly. Planning on a mix of batiks and prints.

I have three daughters with college degrees. One thing they would all have liked is a set of coasters in their college colors. The ones I like are about 4" by 4". I have a set that are folded hexagons also. If this isn't 'spendy' enough you can always include some cash.

I made my nieces zipper pouches with a little cash inside.

Saw this posted and thought it was cool "Postcards addressed to you, redeemable for homemade cookies: When I went off to college, I dearly missed my grandma’s homemade cookies. Send your grad off with postcards that they can mail back to you anytime they need a little home baked goodness."

moonwork42029, I love that idea. It's a win/win situation. You get a note from the grad & they get cookies. How can you not like that idea?
