    Default Baby quilt size?

I have a little checkerboard top that is about 31 x 31 - made of 2-1/2 inch squares.

    I found a bit more material so I can get maybe enough to make it 35 x 31 or 33 x 33.

I don't have any fabric suitable for borders, so I might pillowcase this one (yuck!)

    Any suggestions for the size?

I think I'd go with the 33" square. That is a good size for various uses.

I believe 30x30 may be the size of a receiving blanket so it should work. Personally I prefer a bit bigger but if it's what you got, make it work.

It might be good to "burrito wrap" a little baby in?

I think my basic question is - if I make it bigger - keep it square - or add to the length?

Another vote for square. I think the larger the better (I make mine at least 45"), because at first the quilts are just used for tummy time, but I always think it's nice when they can grow a bit with the kids.

I think square works best for most uses, esp. tummy time. If I know it will eventually be used on say a toddler bed I will do a 45x54 rectangle.

Agree with the others, I like square for baby quilts.

I don't make baby quilts. I make crib size quilts. Batting package says 45" x 60". Large enough for 7 or 8 YO Kid.

I make donation quilts for NICU babies. Most are 30x30" and 32x32". They are small, but so cute!
