    Default Quilting with gardening gloves

One of the great things about these boards are all the tips I pick up, and I just wanted to say that one of the great ones was to use gloves when quilting. Maybe it was specifically for FMQ, but I've used them for regular old SITD and straight line quilting, and they make it so much easier to move the quilt.

I use rubbery garden gloves (I think they're nitrile) and they work great! Thanks everyone for this and all the great tips!

I have always used gardening gloves with the little rubber nubs. They hold up very well and work well for me. I have several pairs in reserve.

Yes, I use gardening gloves for FMQ - and at the moment I am wearing them when I use some crutches as I have recently had a hip replacement and the palms of my hands were getting sore ! They work wonders !!LOL.

If you like gardening gloves, you will be amazed at how much better Machingers are for free motion. They're not very expensive, but they really do fit better and give you better control.

Just don't use cheap gloves. I was lucky that the red that rubbed off of the little nubs did not transfer to the quilt (green, pale pink and white),just onto the surface of my machine, but I was able to get it cleaned off.

I have some called 'grabaroos' that I like quite well for this purpose. I do think they are helpful for controlling the quilt as I machine quilt.

I agree 100%. Was surprised to see the price and snatched them up right away. And I love them.
