Well, I didn't get any more of the vintage quilts quilted over the summer. The LA is at the winter house and we are 10 hours away in Upper Michigan for 6 months. But, we are back and I've gotten 3 more of these beautiful quilts done.
The 2nd quilt was exactly the same as the first so I didn't take any pictures of it. The 3rd quilt was a Boston Commons patterns and very busy. So, I decided that an overall pattern would be fine. I picked a grey thread and a butterfly pattern. I like how it turned out. I put the label on the back with the picture of the original quilt top maker.

I finished the 4th quilt this past week. This one is the butterfly quilt and I decided to custom the quilting on it. I was going to use an apple green thread but decided it was too dark and I wanted the applique to stand out. I chose an ecru thread. I used the computer to do the little flowers in the corner stones and the flower and leaves pattern in the sashing. I accented the centers of the butterflys by hand and stippled around the butterflys. I still have to put the label on but when that's done I'll be ready to start the next. Okay, I hope you like this one as much as I do.

I'm so glad you posted when you had some of them quilted! I remember the original post and I thought "oh, how wonderful to be given those!" and "I hope we get to see the final quilts." What really puts it over the top is the label.

What treasures! I've seen the first called "Periwinkle", and the second is Double Wedding Ring. Don't know the name of the third, but the 4th is Grandmother's Flower Garden. The last is, as selm said, Boston Common.

Nanna-up-north, I have one of my aunt's quilts she made and used in her own home. It was a butterfly just like the one you just finished. She was my mother's younger sister and has been gone almost 20 years now. I am glad you got the quilts instead of the trash or someone else who wouldn't appreciate them. I think my aunt probably made her butterfly quilt in the '40's or at the latest in the early '50's.

I got the first of the vintage quilts finished last week. Even with doing it on my LA, it took me 12 days to finish it and I was working about 3 hours a day.
There were 20 rows of 15 hexis so 300 little flowers to quilt in the spaces. Then, I SITD around the stars. I do hope I did it justice.
There is a 2nd one just like this one but a little larger. 22 rows of 17 hexis.
