I wish I could but no pattern used! What a compliment though, thank you!! I was actually testing this out for use on a Dresden Plate quilt top I just finished. I don't want to quilt it quite this detailed but I'm going to use that sort of flowery design with some fillers.
I did use a ruler to mark the grid but I stitched free hand over the marked lines. The feathers I drew a line to mark approximately where I wanted the spine and then just filled it in by hand.
No I haven't taken very many classes, a basic hand quilting class about seven years ago when I first started quilting and an applique class taught at my local library. That's about it. I just check out blogs and quilting websites and when I see a design I really like I try to recreate it. I look at the details like the shape of the feathers...the flow...I try to draw it by hand in one continuous line first then try it on the machine.
I have always sort of dove in head first and I think that's key. A lot of times we get paralylzed thinking we can't do something or we never could do something...if you see a technique you love, go investigate. Find out how it was made and then TRY it. Be persistent...even if the first time it's ugly. You wouldn't believe some of the hideous quilting I bragged all over town about when I first started free motion quilting because I was so darn proud! LOL* Now I hide those quilts!!

AWW what a nice compliment...I am hanging on to it for ideas...but I painted one side of it with paintstiks so it will probably just stay a scrap!
I am SO with you - it's the quilter not the machine!!! People get too hung up on what they "have" or feel like they "have to have". Certainly bells and whistles make SOME aspects of quilting easier...but pretty much you could do this on any domestic machine that you can cover or drop feed on.

You are more then "Ready." Hopefully you will be able to do something with your practice piece--too special to scrap.
Thanks for sharing that it is a Brother that you used. I often think it is the quilter's talent and not a particular machine. I figure I just need more practice. Lots more practice.
