I have a Brother project runway from Walmart. My second one. I broke my first one and loved it so much I bought another and then fixed the older one. I sew anything including denim. I'm not a sewing machine snob. I have 9 machines and would buy another Walmart machine in a heartbeat. I've been sewing not is machine for the last 4 years.

I use the top of a margarine container cut to whatever shape you need to cover the feed dogs, and tape it on with painters tape, or any kind of tape that doesn't have too sticky a glue on it.

If some glue does stick to your sewing machine bed and is irritating you, it comes off easily with nail polish remover.

Thanks for that help aileen...I will give that a try. I really cannot afford another machine and working with my kenmore will keep that money handy for something else. smile. I always have painters tape handy.. Use it when I layer as I use it to tape down my backing. Too old to get on the floor to do it, so use the tables at our free library. Thanks again. Elaine

I have two brothers that I bought at Walmart over ten years ago and have never had a problem with either one. They truly are workhorses!

I use a 1941 Singer for quilting and the 1956 Singer 201 for piecing. The feed dogs drop, the motor is still up to it after 70 years. I'd never go back to those plastic machines.

I have a Brother CS 6000i, LS 4000, and XL 5232. All of these were purchased at Walmart and no problems. I have had the LS for almost 5 years, the CS for 2 years and the XL is almost 10 years old. As long as you know the machines limits I think you'll be fine. Also, you can always cover those feed dogs instead of buying a new machine. Just put an index card over them.

Seriously? you're questioning the quality of Walmart sewing machines? I know I'm a bit of a machine snob, but what do you really expect from Walmart? you get what you pay for with sewing machines or anything else. You'd probably get a better machine at Goodwill than walmart. If you want to do FMQ, go to your local sewing machine dealer & talk to them. the small independent sellers actually care whether you buy a machine from them or not. there are good (or at least decent) as well as bad machines in all price ranges. once you get over the sticker shock, your local dealer will help you select a quality machine that will meet your needs and budget -- and will take care of you for years. walmart is where you buy dog food, not sewing machines!
