Our newly adopted babies....

How cute! My sisters and I got chicks for Easter one year when we were little, (don't know WHAT my parents were thinking-we lived at the beach in a suburb) and they grew up on our patio (Mother continually washing droppings off the patio)-until all three of them started crowing!! They were all roosters-and needless to say, the roosters had to go! Skip ahead 25 years, DH & I moved to a rural area and got Rhode Island Reds, which I proceeded to make into pets! All had names, too, and gave us a great supply of eggs. One rooster, named "Kernal", keep the ladies happy-until one day our 6 year old went to collect the eggs, and he attacked him! Kernal ended up a local coyote's dinner after being chased off our property!

They will be joining our 8 hens in "the coop" when they are old enough. For now, they reside in a rubbermaid tote in my sewing room. ;)
They are all pets. They will live out their natural lives with the best care, while being spoiled by me and the kids.

I loved my little chick. It slept with me under my chin (I know it probably sounds gross but I was a teenager!) and followed me around the house. It just about drove my parents crazy with the little "peep, peep, peep" as it kept me company. I was amazed, though, how fast it grew up since I had never had a chicken before. One of my friends had kept his chick too so they grew up together on his parents farm. Oh the memories.....
