My first quilt was done at a beginner class at my LQS. Everyone was supposed to bring a set of Layer Cake squares. I didn't even know what that was so I cut squares from some Civil War colors I had. One lady had Christmas colors, another children print with primary colors, one had fall colors. I took pics because not one of the 8 quilts could I tell had come from the same D9P pattern! Some turned the squares so they sort of made a repetitive pattern, others, like mine, were random. Every one was awesome! On some quilts, the pattern is the feature, on others it sort of just makes the colors the shining stars! Re-use, re-cycle, we are saving our planet!

Thank you all so very much. Now I will make the same pattern again. The material I am using are buttons like you would throw into a pile onto a dark material. All different colors. I picked out a light purple and mint green as contrast colors. Thanks again!!!!!

I've made "Alternating Squares" twice and I plan to make "Yellow Brick Road" again. I have fabric for several quilts and I'll probably use the patterns I use for them again. I love new patterns; but when I am in a hurry, some of the patterns I've made before are faster.

It depends. Generally, I like to mix it up but some patterns just beg to be repeated in different fabrics. DP9 for example is my go-to pattern for a quick quilt. I also like Jacob's Ladder for a repeat.

I like to reuse patterns. I did the same when I made clothes. I sort of gave myself extra points if I used the same dress pattern more than once! The finished products never look the same anyway!

I have used the same pattern several times. I like doing new patterns .. but sometimes a old reliable can be a quilters best choice.

There are no quilt police - do what you enjoy and I am sure it will be gorgeous.

It is just plain fun making the D9P. Just finished my second one which was gifted. The first still needs to be sandwiched/quilted but will stay here at home. The jelly roll quilts continue to fascinate too.

I have made at least ten Trip around the world patterns, maybe more. The Ohio Star is another pattern I like to make over and over. They turn out different every time. I also make different borders that expand the creativity on every quilt.

I made 6 quilts using the same pattern ... all for my cousin's six grandchildren. It's amazing how different they looked just by using different material. I was tired of the pattern by the end of the 6th one, but I would make it again ... just not soon! Have made different quilts since then. Variety is the spice of life!!
