Dimples run all through out my family. I tell everyone now that those dimples that have gotten me more than my fair share of compliments in my life are now making me pay my dues. You can still see the dimples along with the extra wrinkles that are all around the area. Funny how life works.

One thing that I've learned from vitamin testing and I'm sure on other test; not all are the same. I see a specialist for my thyroid and he now also checks my vitamins and its with him I ask most of my questions. My regular PCP will run a test and get different results than the specialist. I asked about this and it depends on the test that is being ran. When I first found out the low vit D levels and started taking prescribed supplements, I did and still do see benefits. The biggest one is I have less pain in my back and legs. My arthritis doc was the first to have it checked. As far as calcium, I have no reason to not trust the test since with all of the test I've had for osteoporosis they've all show I have it. You have to be smart about taking vitamins. Just because it says take two a day, you don't do them together. Take one at night and one in the morning so that your body processes them better. Vit D is absorbed better if you take it with fatty foods. Lots of people have this that is true but since I can see the results of my vitamins I'll trust the testing. Not all vitamins are the same; I learned this from a chiroprator along time ago who also believed in trying to be healthy. Research and check things out. If it's on the shelf cheap and it says the same name as something else more expensive, that doesn't mean it'll work as well. Just because its expensive doesn't mean it works better either, or at all. I do agree with OhSue, the right test needs to be ran and the right kind of vitamins. Just like in magnesium, there are two different kinds and as you grow older your body doesn't absorb the one as easy so the other is better. Be very careful as to what you put into your body and when you get test make sure you are getting what you need. Each time I have test ran, I get a copy of it and it will show you what was done and the results and you can compare it to the next one. Plus it gives you more to research on

If I used something for wrinkles, it would have to be a 50 gallon vat, so I could just jump in. I've earned them all and now I will get used to them. Takes a lot of practice to grow old

I have mild rosecea and my dermatologist recommended Roc. It's a whole brand of skin care available at Target. My dr said just the daily moisturizer is needed and night time moisturizer. It contains Retinol which boosts collagen. I've been using it a couple of years and I like the way it works.

I play 4-5 "brain" games online daily. I do take fish oil. I'm on a lot of medication for asthma and the fewer vitamins, medications I have to take I'm happy.

I don't know if you have a BJ's wholesale club around you but you can get the ROC there at great prices. Sams club or Costco would probably also have it. My sister has rosecea and she got a face treatment last yr, I can't remember if any of it was covered by insurance but I know she said it worked. I've recently been using Nutragena Night cream; its for wrinkles, and age spots and has Retinol in it. Dr Oz said on his show that the only things out there that do work has Retinol in it. My dermatoligist office has a new system in and they say people are getting really good results. One is called StemFactor and its made from human stem cells and not from plants like most are; we aren't plants. They actually extract it from adults to make it. Its around 90 for a 2mo supply but she said I should be seeing results by the end of 2 months. I also got a product from the same line called Correct with Retinol in it and then I always buy my sunscreen from them. I can't remember the product line right now but I'm trying it. Only about a week or so, little better I think. I just need to remember to do the night time routine, which is simple, I'm just lazy by then.

Several people mentioned Vitamin D. I've read many people are deficient in Vit D now because so many people use sunblock all the time. My sister is ver deficientnif she doesn't take supplements so dr gives her a stronger dose and she says she can tell the difference in how she feels. Feels much better when levels are closer to normal.

Very interesting topic. I'm reading all the posts and learning a lot.

I'm happy for your sister. Both of my meds are from a blood specialist. My PCP sends me to him for this and my thyroid because the results are all over the place. I take 50,000 mg of Vit D, daily (prescriptions) and also Calcitrol .5 mg, its man made. Plus I still had issues so I started once or twice a week or sometimes once a month going to tan and now my levels are good and my doc says its great the tanning is working and I'm looking better. Where I go the level 1-2 gives you the Vit d then as the levels go up its more for bronzing. I put sunscreen on my face while tanning and sometimes even a towel so it doesn't get too much. Research shows that 15 min a day in sun without sunscreen is enough unless you have absorbancing problems like I do. I've researched all of the vitimins and have my specialist take a close eye on it for me and still go to PCP every 6 mos so he can check. Tell your sister good luck and I'm happy she feels better.

A good skin care program is key, for me. I am not a soap and water baby, i use a great (for me) skincare program that includes cleanser, exoliation, moisturizing and an eye area firming product. I don't mix product brands...i use one brand. I get compliments on my skin all of the time and I attribute it to practicing a good routine. I have done this for most of my adult years. i am in my 50's now.

I take a multi-vitamin ( when I remember!) and i need to take that darn Caltrate (yuk!). I dont buy into all of the supplement propoganda. Eat a balanced diet. I crave my veggies after a few days of slacking. Keep It simple, IMHO.

OH, I have my levels checked each year including my thyroid levels. It was removed in 2000. Never had an issue since I take my thyroid pill daily. I am very fortunate to be in good health. Daily walks too.
