I've never participated in a swap before. Can you explain how the swap part works?

So I make a self portrait (LOVE this idea) and then...?

I read the general instructions (which were really more rules than instructions). Still unsure about the swap part. So when I'm done (and since posting the above, I've started, and I'm about half-way done-- VERY fun!), I'm going to send it somewhere. And I *think* I'm going to receive someone else's? Guess I'm just a bit confused about why someone would want a self portrait of ME...

AND can I just say that googling "self portrait quilt" especially at images.google.com was also very very fun and inspiring. There are some DANG good artists out there!

With most swaps, i usually research the topics and info about the my swap partner. this allows me to send them something i think they would like. With this swap I have the opportunity to send a swap partner something that reflects my like, colors, fabric, etc. Best of all I will recieve something from someone that tells me a little about them.

Okay, well, I may need your guidance when we get to the researching our swap partner.

In the meantime, while you have posted YOUR self portrait, are we supposed to refrain from doing so on ours so that it's a surprise?
