SUggestions to make a scrap quilt

Find a block you like to do and then choose a background color such as: black, white, ivory, beige, brown, or navy depending on what will go with most of your scrap colors and then use different colors with your neutral to create a scrappy that is a little more controled. For instance: if you have a lot of blue choose a white for the background, if you have a lot of red use a navy or black as the background, if you have a lot of variety of colors an off white might work best.

declared war on my scrap bag: resulting reversible QAYG quilt
Completely reversible king-size quilt; both sides are made totally from scraps.
I used Warm & Natural batting. It's a bit heavy as it's got so many (thousands,
it seemed!) seam allowances enclosed
so it's nice to be able to "change" the quilt
by just turning it over.
This one is "Buggy Wheels". I used white sashing and white binding on this side.
I dubbed this [string quilt] side "Just the Scraps, Ma'am"! I used black sashing
and black binding on this side.
These two photos show the reverse of each side.

Scrap Quilt
I just got my scrap quilt back from having it quilted and I wasn't sure how I would like it, but just fell in love with it. It is a 4 1/2" block...one block is a print and the next is a solid. I'm new to this sight so will try to post it when I have the binding on. It will surprise you!!!!

I made one of Fons and Porter's quilts called, "Back in Time stars". It was so much fun to make. I love their term for a block that doesn't follow the usual placement of lights and darks,"maverick block". It was a challenge to see how I could change the lights and darks to make a block that looked so different.

So, I see the best scrappy quilts are the ones that have a main color to them, like "justflyingin" does in her quilts. Blues, yellows, reds, etc. Now that I have caught on to that, I think I can make a scrappy quilt also. Before it seemed to disruptive to me, but by adding a main color all over to it, it tames the quilt down. It's not wild and crazy. It's looks more organized. I like "justflyinin"...how she did her two quilts on page one. That's what I will do.
