I always pre-wash; in fact, the moment I walk in the door upon returning from the store (or upon opening the box from the mailman) I put the fabric in the washer.

I prefer working with the softer fabric that washing brings. This is especially true for those fabrics like batiks that have a higher per inch thread count.

I usually do not wash but am debating about washing the quilt top I am currently working on as the white background fabric feel stiff and do not want to get as much wrinkle as I did on the my prevous quilt. The quilt I am currenlly working is the dresden fan and it is on white bg fabric with bright colors that I go from Clotide. Has anyone had any problem with color bleeding from this site.

I do not prewash, I am an old lady and don't have time for all that washing and ironing!

i always wash on hot & dry on cotton... so it will never shrink anymore after that..

and, i work for a trucking company.. and i can tell you that the dirt & dust on a dock is NASTY! when most fabric ships, thru us anyway, it is on a skid w/some shrinkwrap (like saran wrap) around it... i know that dirt got in there, and we deliver to lqs often.. sometimes, the bolts are in a box, but how would you know when you buy it from the shp?
