The small quilt group here in Spring Green made this blocks for one of our members who is unable to come to the meetings. She is too ill. So we made her the brightest quilt imaginable. That blocks is on a foundation and the quarter inch seam doesn't matter so even the beginners got in there and sewed blocks. I set the quilts they make, quilt them and bind them. This needs squaring and binding yet.

We make a lot of Passage quilts and we use this pattern for them now. A Passage quilt is used to cover a body bag as it is removed from a home, hospital or nursing home. We have given them to nursing homes, assisted livings, hospitals, and funeral homes in all the communities surrounding us. Our goal is to show the families that someone cares about their loss and hope they will be comforted by that. In the nursing homes, when our friends pass, the residents don't turn away when they are taken from the home but turn and bow their heads in respect. A quilt makes it a kinder gentler sight.

What a beautiful quilt. The significance of the name and beauty of the quilt are so special. I have a friend with cancer, just can't bring myself to do a pink ribbon quilt. To her the pink ribbons scream her illness and she is just 42, so young.

Yes! I agree that this is very special quilt made by very special people.

Helbo~I made a purple ribbon quilt (pancreatic cancer) for a co-worker with siggy blocks from the staff. She loved it and now that she has passed, I am glad that she had it to take to all of her treatments. Maybe you can do a different pattern in colors that will lift your friend's spirits.
