I saw this quilt in a Japanese quilting magazine that is about 10 years old. The Kanji reads, "Mom, What is happening?" It was quilted by Aki Yamane, a Japanese grandmother who was concerned about her grandchildren's future in the nuclear age. Sadly, it seems to be prophetic.

It is so sad what has happened. This is just another sign that there people out there aware of the danger which makes it even sader. I just keep praying for the people

Thank you. Yes, I did. It is a self-portrait of a much younger me, living in simpler times. I think I've reverted -- and that's a good thing. Makes me think back to the days when the whole neighborhood came out to watch Sputnik pass by in the night sky. We were all so amazed and a little frightened. I don't think any of us could imagine what has come to pass now.

That's awesome! Yeah, dark, but really cool at the same time. I'd hang it up :D
.... okay probably not in the main living room or the kitchen but I'd find a home for it. It's just too cool.
