What is the traditional way of quilting a grandmothers flower garden quilt top? I know what I want to do on the borders but not sure what to do in the flowers themselves. I am not at that stage yet, still working on appliquing the flowers but am in need of ideas..

Echo Quilting. An X in each flower. Quilt a charm in each center (heart, star, etc.) The style I've seen the most is the ¼" from the seam around each hex. Keep us posted on your progress:)

I have quilted several of these quilts and they all wanted each hex quilted 1/4 away from seam. Seems that is the norm around here.

Thanks everyone, I had a feeling that is what it was but have never seen one completed. I have nine flowers appliqued to a background & am not sure how big I want it to be, I have about seven more flowers to be appliqued but need to decide how large I want it, I am thinking wall hanging. I inherited the flowers from the daughter of a close friend that we lost a few years ago, they were done by my friend's mother whom I knew very well.

I have the one my grandmother made for me in the 1960s. It's quilted 1/4" from the seam around each circle in the flower. I don't know if the quilting shows in the picture that's on here.

Here's the picture. If you enlarge it, you can see the quilting. http://www.quiltingboard.com/t-86511-1.htm

I can't enlarge it on my daughter's computer so I have to wait until I get home this weekend. It sure is beautiful, I should have done more research before I put my together as I am appliquing them to white tonal fabric instead of attaching them together.

Have you tried holding down the control key and touching the + sign. I hold the control and push forward on the dial in middle of my mouse, but I'm still on a PC. I know most laptops don't use a mouse.

Grandma made all her quilts by hand. I can remember them and admire them, but I can't duplicate them.

Thanks for the idea, I did not think of that but her computer is quite old and we always have a hard time viewing things on it. I will be able to get a much better picture on my home computer. Thanks for your help, I really appreciate it.
