i was wondering if anyone would be able to tell me how difficult (if possible) this would be by hand.
thanks!

Just so happened, here's another thread on CWindows. Take a look here, they reference some tutorials.

Cathedral Windows! I am also starting on one. I know there are those who say you can do it on the machine, but it is the ultimate hand pieced quilt! The joy of this quilt is that when you make it, there is no further sandwiching and quilting! It is done! It is a great quilt to practice your had stitching because most of your stitching is hidden, or at least not the focus of the quilt! The focus goes to the "windows" and it is so very versatile! I will check out the tutorial also becasue it has been a while since I have done one.
And Welcome from St. Louis!

Hi Lacey and welcome from central part of Indiana
fancy that, Cathedral Windows was my very first quilt that I made ...way back in the 70,s and I did it all by hand. Can't say that I thought it was hard but didn't have anyone to show me how so would probably do a few things different if I were to do it again. I like to do hand work, but it is slow going so work on other things at the same time
