Default FW issues URGENT

just got a call from the estate sale lady here in town. She is having a sale this weekend where there is a FW. Has the book, case, etc, and the machine will not sew.
Oiled it, made sure to thread the needle correctly, and she said is breaking the stitch after 5-7 stitches. Runs great, bobbin tension ok, even did the "bobbing bobbin" test, but as soon as she goes to sew,,snap..snap..snap...

any suggestions, theories, things I need to look for...I am heading over there with more fabric, newer thread, and if you can tell me what kind of needle, hopefully a NEW needle!

The needle is the standard 15x1. My 301 likes Singer needles for FMQ, but will straight stitch with a Schmetz. Does the FW thread right to left like the 301? Upper tension too tight? Thread caught on the notch in the spool? I had the last one recently and it did just what you are describing.

Tell her you can't fix it . . . and you'll take it off her hands :-)

thank you....it does thread left to right, flat side of needle goes to the left, will have to check the rest when I get there in a few minutes!

Check to make sure the bobbin assembly finger is locked into place in the feed dog cover plate. I bet you this is the problem:>

I had a friend that had the same problem. Reason, she threaded it left to right instead of right to left (make sure flat side of needle is to left) and the real problem, the bobbin finger wasn't latched in the vertical space under the throat plate. Once those 2 things were changed it sewed like a dream. Let us know if it works
