I want to do a folded border on the round robin block I just got. I think I am gonna go with a strip an inch and a quarter wide, press in half then sew it on. Here is my question - can I/should I miter my corners. Thinking about it I am going to half to miter them for it to be loose all the way around - right?

This brings me to my next question - is there a tutorial on here for doing a mitered border? Can anyone recommend some instructions?

Thanks!!!!!!

Missi, here's a site I found this morning that may help with the binding:
http://sewinspired.blogspot.com/2007...-tutorial.html

I'll have to check, but I don't remember a folded border being mitered - just 4 strips. Now, to remember where I saw that - that's the problem

Edited to add: I found it!

Thanks - on the QIAD pic it looks to me like she didn't press the sides before she sewed on the top and bottom? You would have to press out the sides before sewing on the top or you couldn't press them back.

Could I sew it on and miter the corner just like you do when sewing on binding?

I believe that to do this you sew on your folded border using an 1/8th inch seam allowance. You would sew on your side folded borders, then the top and the bottom ones. Then you place your next border on top of them sewing a normal 1/4 inch seem, pressing the borders back as though the folded one was not even there. I hope that makes sense :D

Missi, I see where it gets confusing - we're so used to pressing those things back, like binding. The folded border never gets pushed back or pressed out - it stays just like it's sewn. We see the stitching and think it needs to be pressed over to hide the seam. The 1/8" seam on the folded border is covered by the 1/4" seam of the next border sewn on.

If you have either of these books by Eleanor Burns (or can get to the library to get a look at them) they have the directions:

Egg Money Quilts - page 98
Still Stripping After 25 Years - page 41
