I just finished my last block for the quilt that I'm working on. When I started the quilt, I was having trouble getting the points to match up and the blocks the right size etc. I asked a few questions and read lots of post. Found out I was cutting wrong, ironing wrong, pinning wrong, sewing wrong. everything I was doing was wrong. (I'm self taught, and had a horrible teacher ) Gradually, things started improving. The last 9 blocks for my final row, all went together so nicely and needed NO trimming on the finished blocks. Now I just need to determine the layout and hopefully the blocks and rows will go together with few problems.

Thank you all for sharing your knowledge and expertise.

You made me laugh...."I'm self taught and had a horrible teacher." I suspect you are just a tid bit hard on yourself.

However, this is exactly the place to ask questions, as there are always quilters around who have answers.

Sounds like you are ready for a design wall. If you don't have room then you can be creative: use a flannel backed tablecloth; use a roll of felt; ask a LQS if you can use their design wall; etc.

I am self taught too and I have been reading everything I can "google" I didn't realize how important it was to "Iron" with a hot iron. Isn't' it great when things go together well?
