I am in my no buy mode still...I have spent less than 40 dollars this year on fabric. I find it does makes me more creative and think out of the box. I made a Dr. Seuss tumbler top and its been unfinished for months. I just could not decide what I wanted to use for the backing. Then yesterday morning it hit me...I have some left over panels from another projects and also a large quilt top that I was just not thrilled about. it was 12 inch blocks sewn together...Coast Guard fabric, lighhouse and boats. I decided to cut off a few rows for my border and also use the left over ten inch blocks for the backing to applique Dr Seuss prints - so here is my Cat in the Hat meets the Coast Guard Quilt.

Many of our very best quilts come about because we've had to use something that we normally would not have considered. Well done and very creative.

I was just looking at the picture...it does not do a good job showing the fabric. the blocks look black but are dark blue with light blue lighthouses. the borders are stars - its looks alot nicer in person. I even used black roses for the very last border. My granddaughter was here yesterday so I did not want to use the 505 spray around her. So today....I will sandwich it and quilt.
