Default Which do you prefer.....

Between the two, which do you prefer to use...Kona Solids or Moda Bella solids? What are the pros and cons of each? Thanks in advance!

I have not used Moda so I lack an opinion there. I have heard that their "black" solid fabric is superior to anything else on the market. I use Kona and love it. I just bought 9 yards of it today (chocolate brown, white, and light pink). I have chosen to stick with one brand so that I can buy more and remember exactly what I bought in case I run short when making a quilt. It feels like high quality and does not get "stringy" and fray a lot when washed like some fabrics do.

Which fabrics get stringy and fray a lot? I want to play with making chenille and those ones sound perfect for it.

I'm not much help because I use both and like both of them. I use more Kona cotton because I can purchase it so much cheaper. I have a Kona cotton fabric chart and it is quick and easy to find the exact color I need. I use lots of Kona Snow. Today I am using Kona Lemon as a background fabric with The Three Bears in a quilt I am making for one of my daughter's foster children.

I also only have Kona solids. I don't want to mix them up with Moda, so I'm sticking with Kona. I love Konas!

Thanks! I don't like the idea of mixing them either and I want to choose one or the other and stick with that line. I have found a source of the color charts for each but can't afford to purchase both. I want to be able to find the color I need quickly and easily, order it, and be done with it without fretting over which one to purchase. Sounds like I really won't go wrong with either one.
One more quick question: Where is your favorite source to get your solids...Fabric.com, Thousands of Bolts, others?
Thanks so much! As always, y'all are the greatest group of people I know!!!

What fabric lines do you like? Moda fabrics definitely have a different shading to them, a slightly warm gray undertone. They coordinate together extremely well. A cooler fabric line might not work as well with them, just like the Kona might not work as well with the Moda. I think the Moda is thicker but it is also more expensive.

Just a question: where do you get the Kona color charts? I order most of my fabrics online and that would be a great help.

Have you tried RJR solids? We carried both the Moda and Kona solids in our shop, but the RJR solids we had were better quality, IMO, and didn't fray as much. That said, I've used lots of Moda and Kona and still do. Also, Moda black is not "superior" to other fabrics. It just depends on the tone and depth of the color you want. There are double and triple dyed black solids out there. Try a few different ones and see which one(s) you like best. And, if you're like me, then buy the bolt so you always have black fabric on hand
