Default Cost of Featherweight 221?

I have my mothers Featherweight machine and case that I learned to sew on as a child. Up until recently I didn't know that it was worth anything. I would guess she bought it in the mid 40's. I had a service man go through it and he says it's in wonderful shape. Just because of curiosity I would like to know how much the machine would have been new. I understand from the service man that they are great machines to piece on. I would have never guessed it was so valuable.

Depending on the year and place, they usually ran $100.00 plus or minus a few dollars. That was a hefty purchase back then.

Today with manual and original attachments including case, basically everything that was with it when first purchased, they can run up to $1000.00+. I would certainly think a long time before giving it up. Continue to take good care of it.

I have purchased 9 of them. I have paid $175 to $ 350. for one in excellent shape with all the extra feet and manuals. They are a wonderful machine. I would never pay as much as $1000. except if it was a 222.

I paid $125.00 for my featherweight in 1957. That included a buttonholer and some attachments. Who ever has it now got a good one. My DH without thinking gave it to Goodwill.

I know everything's bigger in Texas but wow. My aunt paid $100 for one back in the day, I paid 250 for mine. $1000+ is a great dream, IMHO!

This record is from 1946 -so no info after that date.

I watch on eBay - and there seems to be a lot of FW listed now, the prices started to drop about last March, and they never went back up.

I have the original bill of sale for my 1936 FW along with each payment receipt! It cost $117.00 in 1936. It took them 3 years to pay it off and they got behind in their payments twice. Each payment was around $3.00, can't remember exactly. No idea what $117.00 would be equivalent to today...
