With some enabling from Joe, I picked up this clone yesterday. I did do a little dickering and they took off $10. I am glad I did as this machine, though dusty, is very pristine with no hardened oil varnish, nicks or scratches. The one interesting thing is that she came in a Necchi/Elna pinkish and off white case. But I rather like the case as the right side of the box holds the controll pedal very nicely. I did plug it in at the GW to check the motor and light. She(he?) will receive a good oiling tonight and a test drive.

Nice! I'm impressed they let you haggle at all at the GW. I've never had any success. Very nice machine. Your stitch length selector looks like it was modeled after the silver model 15. Nice case too.

Very nice machine. That necchi case would go nicely with my Necchi Lelia 515.

Rodney, I should have mentioned that as part of the dickering process I mentioned that the light cover was taped over with masking tape (did you notice?), belt was wrong and it was rather noisy (lack of oil and a lot of thread wrapped up in the race). I also mentioned that if this machine was on the GW auction site the starting price would be $19.99 which is the usual price for the Tacoma, WA GW. So as Joe mentioned it does not hurt to ask. I also forgot to mention that although the case was nice it is the first time I got a kidney bean along with the usual dust bunnies and pins. It did have one bobbin, not a class 15, that may go to a Necchi.

Nice. Looks like the original wrapping paper is still on the light.

Never occurred to me it might be the original wrapping paper on the light. Will find out this evening. WOW. Perhaps it never used. And perhaps the reason for all of the thread wrapped up in the race is because the one, wrong bobbin that came with the machine was used to test it at GW. Thanks again, Joe. I like how you think!

I took a closer look at the light and the dark underside. Joe, I think you are correct. The tape on the light cover is original and I see nickle under the tape when I scratched a little off with my fingernail. Need advice as to the best way to remove it.

I'd take the light shade off and soak it with oil. See if the oil wouldn't destick it.

I sometimes wonder if the machines with dual or multiple J-A numbers weren't made by parts from more than one manufacturer.

It does look like it's a NOS machine. What a find. I'd oil it up real good and grin like a chessy cat as I used it.

All missions accomplished. Oiled. Tape covering the light shade is now gone. Threaded it up, loaded a bobbin and it sews like a champ. No more clackity clack.

Sewing through 8 layers of fabric, tension is perfect. Big Cheshire grin.
Soaking the tape with oil worked. I then cleaned it up further with kerosine to
remove some remaining glue. KEEPER!
