Exclamation Wonky Short Strips or What To Do With Them! mini-tut @ post #30

I started out this quilt trying Karen Griska's fan style blocks, but reverted back to a wonky style and I love this type block better! Her method is to start sewing your strip 1/4" from the edge and go wider as you near the end of the strip or start off wide and end up narrow. I love the look of the blocks I did (3.5")! I didn't really care for sewing narrow to wide or wide to narrow consistently. I tried many different 6.5" scrappy blocks but settled on this one I call Wonky Short Strips. It was so fun to do and liberating! I really loved making these blocks!

My goal was a 36x36 quilt but it ended up near 45x60. I just couldn't stop! The most fun was the crazy patch border that gave the blocks some umph and used up itty bits at the same time! A friend gave me the animal panel I'm using for the back and will have 2 rows left over to use for something else. Some baby/child will surely enjoy this quilt! Hope you are inspired! Close ups are included! Here's the link to see Karen's Fan Quilt:

Sew very cute! Love your little wonky scrappy blocks! Border too. Fun on the front, and great panel for the back.

Bright and cheerful and I really love how the border made it pop!
