Kenmore 158.17300 cams
We just found this machine today. It came with the main cam and sews fine. Is there a list of what cams fit it? The one that is in it is black. There does seem to be a lot of cams available on ebay if I knew which would fit it. Any suggestions?

I actually found the book. These are the part numbers for the cams.
26845 Cam #5
26848 Cam #8
26849 Cam #9
26850 Cam #10
26852 Cam #12
26864 Cam #24
28772 Cam #30
28771 Cam #31
28766 Cam #36
40425 Cam #50
These were the only cams mentioned in the book. Does that mean these are the only ones that this machine can use? Or can it use others? The one that came in the machine is #20 and it seems to be the main one for the basic stitches. It is black metal. I have seen ones on ebay that are grey plastic but have these same numbers and usually come in a set with others that are not listed in my book.

Your machine takes "C" type cams. Kenmore made different series of machines and there are other types of cams that won't fit but the cams themselves will look different. The list in your book are the cams that originally came with the machine, but others of the C type should work. They will be the kind you find in the green boxed sets and come in several colors--light green, dark green, orange and gray (I think). A set of 30 is the largest I've seen but I think there might be more than that. The black cam in your machine is I believe the zigzag cam which would have come installed in the machine and it won't zigzag without it.
A picture of those cams was posted by Mrs. SewNSew on this thread: http://www.quiltingboard.com/vintage...t252968-3.html
Check thrift stores first as that's probably the best price you'll find, and then e-bay. There is also shopgoodwill.com but bidding on that site has frequently become rather ridiculous for attachments. Often you can look for sets that will include the pattern cams, buttonholers and feet/attachments. You'll want to note if your machine is low shank or super-high shank when browsing.
Good luck.

ann31039,
Here's a set on GW, no bids yet:

The "C" cams come in a variety of colors. All of them share the same numbers and patterns. So as long as the number is the same the color is irrelevant.
