Military Fund Raising Quilt
Hi, I have a H4H Military fund raising quilt to make that will be raffled in July. I've just purchased the fabrics in patriotic colours and also found some lovely Union Jack quilt fabric that is perfect. I thought about 52/54 x 65/70 would be ample, but could really appreciate some advice.
Yesterday I had the idea of including (writing) all the names of the 453 Service personnel who had been killed in the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq onto the quilt. Would it be possible and does anyone have any suggestions for a quilt block that would enable this to work?
The only other way I could think of is including white in the border and writing their names on that, but how? What would be the best way to make sure everyone was included, and should their rank also be on as well.
Or, should I just make the quilt and forget about adding all their names, then make one special block on the front (as well as the label) to dedicate it to all who have Served?
I know there are four months, but I have a feeling that it's going to fly by before I know it.
Thank you
Joanne

hmmmmmmmmmmmmm I like the above idea BUT not sure if the names of so many that have passed away would be the best idea. I am playing devils advocate. But if you did a log cabin (great quilt for a raffle as many recognize that pattern) you might be able to write the names on all the light logs.

Have you looked at Google photos with a search of "signature quilts"? It might give you some inspiration with a pattern idea. You can't let any time go by because 4 months can fly by so quickly. I think this is a marvelous tribute to your fallen service men. Please keep us posted because I am sure that we all would like to see your progress.

Will it be available for everyone to buy tickets or just military? If it is available for everyone I would leave off the names. We had a great quilt on QB done in Union Jack blocks if that would work?
