Default retreats make for the best weekends

Just finished a three day retreat. The organizer did a great job, the facility, the project and the food were all so enjoyable. It was a nice break from "everyday."

I absolutely agree. Altho the one I attended was during the week, it was so nice not to think about meals or housework. I came home filled with new ideas and inspiration.

Love to hear about quilt retreats. Please share your whole experience with us.

What did you find to be the most fun? What projects did you do? Did you play games? What was your favorite part?

Our project was a Bento Box pattern designed by Donna Slater of The Feathered Nest. The pattern is written to use the Acuquilt cutter. There were cutter available for us to use. We were going to play games but we got so involved in colors and choices, that we forgot to play. The retreat was in a house at a campground. The camp was just opening up for the season and since we were "off-season" the price was very reasonable. ($150 for 3 days and 2 nights) We used 3 Bento blocks to make a table runner for the house as a thank you to the owner. Donna provided most of the food, but we all brought treats to share. We laughed at our mistakes, jokes shared and other silly stories. We were seated in a large rectangle of tables facing each other, so it was easy to join the conversation if we wished.

I have been on several retreats. Mostly at the same location in northern AL. A place built for retreats called Red Rooster. (By the way the owners are selling. They have been in business 10 years and want to retire again. They are stilled doing well and are booked thru 2016 if anyone is interested.) it is a fantastic place. The cost is $250 for 4 days and 3 nights. All food, snacks, lodging, tables, chairs, electric power hub, lights, irons, cutting matts, and in summer a pool is included. Have been going for 7 years. We usually work on our own projects. Sometimes play games. Did I say the place is fantastic!!!
