I have my first quilt completed except for hand sewing the binding. I have heard that I need to use a blind stitch. Can any one let me know what that is and how to do it?. Can anyone help?. I would sure appreciate it.

Thanks for your time.
Sally

There's a good tutorial at Brightcove.com on adding binding by machine. It gives a good explanation about adding the binding. The only difference would be to use your blind stitch on the back instead of stitching it down by machine. A blind stitch just means taking small stitches that are hidden in the fold of the binding and backing/batting layers of the quilt. You have to be careful not to let your stitches go all the way through to the front of the quilt or they will show. Good luck!

I am fairly new to quilting and I am willing to try new methods, everyone eventually sticks to what works for them. I found a ladder stitch at www.quiltville.com under tips & techniques, binding hints. I just love how it turns out, you really cannot see the stitches. That is what "works" for me. I want to perfect sewing on the binding (no hand stitching) for the charity quilts I make, but for mine, I like to sew by hand with my blind stitch.
