Okay, I am creating a quilt using Barns with Quilts on them and I ordered extra fabric and I have enough fabric to make 6 place mats. My question is for you great quilters. What is the perfect batting for the place mats? I have a local JoAnn's that I can go to but on my quilts I always use the 80/20 batting. Is there a better batting for the place mats??? Thank you for your help...great group of idea people!!!

I use Warm and Natural for everything. I've made quite a few placemats and have never had any problem with it.

I have used the 80/20 and not any problem. I do tend to use what I have on hand though.

I would say use a batting that is low loft. You don't want anything to wobble or topple.

I agree with MadQuilter. You also want to make sure it's washable. Warm & Natural is a great choice (I've used that for placemats). Some of the low loft QD cottons would also work great.

I like Hobbs Thermore ultra-thin polyester batting. Great for placemats and coasters and table runners. Not sure if you can get it at JoAnn though they do carry some Hobbs products. I think I got mine at connectingthreads.com. It is affordable and a queen size makes a lot of small projects. No shrinking either.

This is me. I use what I have on hand at the time. It has all seemed to work well for me.

Pellon fleece interfacing is my choice. It's sold in the interfacing section, not the batting. You can get fusible, but I prefer it without. Nice and stable, thick enough so quilting shows up and grabby - it is easy to sandwich, even big Spicy Spiral table runners.

I keep all my Hobbs 80/20 scraps from previous projects in a large container so I just use my leftover scraps for my placemats.
