I found one of these...https://www.pinterest.com/pin/331225747572808734/ at a thrift store today ($5.00), but I think mine is for low shank because the part that goes on the needle bar is different. Is anyone familiar w/this attachment? Does it need those little round things that go on the sides? There are none in the box, but I got the little things that are shown in the picture. Sorry I don't know what the parts are called!

So, if anyone can tell me more about this, or point me somewhere I can read about it I would be thankful.

Here is more info on this attachment http://www.ebay.ph/itm/RARE-Greist-O...-/390326410594 . Mine is black like the one I linked to above, but if you look at the two pictures you will notice the difference in the part that attaches to the needle bar.

I have tried it out, and not 100% sure exactly how to use it, but it did overcast!

So, anyone else have one of these??? Or know how to use it???

The top one uses what we call the top clamp system. Where there is a big nut that holds the foot or attachment. The nut is held to the presser foot bar by a screw. To use them you have to remove the nut assembly, then put the attachment in it's place and clamp it down with the little screw you can see in the angled silver part.

The second on is is a standard low shank version. Use it just like a regular attachment.

I'm pretty sure I have on in my collection, but I don't think I've ever used it.

I have the low shank version thankfully since I have a low shank machine. I kinda like it, but need to play w/it some more. I also have 2 Singer zigzaggers (if anyone is interested in buying one pm me) that I like a little bit better mostly because you can set them to do a straight stitch w/the attachment still on the machine.

Wish i could learn how to use more of the attachments, it adds a bit more fun to the sewing experience.

Thanks for posting this neat little attachment. I have two of the Greist ZigZagger attachments. I don't think I have seen the overcaster. Looks like the overcaster has stitches similar to a serger - and for a whole lot less $$.
Care to share some of your pictures and the resulting stitches? Also what do the three different side things do?

Have never seen one like this Griest but I have many of the Singer ones. Haven't used them for a long time.

Janey- I will try to pictures up, once I feel I am using it correctly . What I have learned from looking at the book in the 2nd link, is that the side things are for different weights of fabric. They are labeled thin medium, and heavy. My youngest DS figured out how to put those things on the overcaster for me. It does work differently than the zigzagger (not "just like a regular attachment" as stated above) which I also learned from the Ebay pictures. I am so glad that seller put up so many pictures!

I had never seen one of these either, and since it was only $5 I grabbed it. It is in very good condition too, looks like new.
