Default What is a tag sale?

Have seen that definition on fabric vendors web-sites. What does that mean? Would like to buy at that price but not if I have to do it today! Than cupe!

I always thought it was another term for a yard sale or garage sale.

A tag sale is like saying it is a garage sale. It is a term used back east. Martha Stewart uses this term often. They used to place things outside on the lawn with white price tags dangling from a string. Ever see the movie,"Out of Africa"?

I had never heard that term either til we started going to Maine to visit my in laws. I learned the same with the words soda & pop. I discovered so many things are regional across the country.

Sometimes it means that everything in the house is "tagged" for sale, an estate sale. I attended two today. I used to be in business selling the contents of homes for other people. Upper class developments would not allow the sale to be in their area, so I had to bring it out to mine. Now things are changing. I no longer do it but I have the contacts to go to for paintings and other good stuff. It is in my blood but with 2 shoulder surgeries, things are changing for me. Attend one sometime, you would be surprised at the sewing and quilting goodies that are there. Western Pa. still has the "country auctions" and I have my eye on going for quilt patches of all different sizes and fabrics.

I've heard tag sale used a few times but always thought it was some sort of "puffery," an obvious exageration or fancy language meant to entice but isn't strictly factual. Like "Best burgers in the world" or "A slice of Heaven" or "Hurry! Hurry! Hurry!" Tage sale may have once usually meant a specific kind of sale and now is usually puffery. I've heard it so rarely I wouldn't be able to tell, though.

Never heard the term before. As the world appears to get smaller so our language increases.

In my area, a tag sale means the price is set and there is no haggling. You either pay the indicated price or you don't get the merchandise.
