Default What to Wear to a Quinceanera?

My husband's friend is having a Quinceanera for his daughter. We've been invited and I have no idea what to wear. I know that the girls wear prom type dresses and the boys wear tuxes but I don't know what the attendees that aren't part of the ceremony wear. Has anyone been to one? Can I just wear a pair of nice black pants and a nice jacket?

Absolutely ~ I went to one. The party was a very dress up affair for the honoree and the family and a chance to eat really good food and have fun.

Sounds good. I have been to one and wore a nice more formal dress. DH wore his suit as did my boys. Have fun!

I've never heard of this occasion. Is it regional? From what you've described, it sounds like a nice dress would be appropriate.

it's a Hispanic celebration of the girl turning 15. It's a big to do, like a mini wedding and dresses in the same price range.
You can wear what you'd wear to a wedding. Some of them are really over the top with friends in attendance too. They hire a professional photographer, dj and big cake. enjoy

Thanks, everyone. I'm not much of a dress person, so I'll probably wear black pants and one of my vintage kimonos or a dressy jacket. I probably won't be able to eat much of anything because of my dietary stuff, but I still plan to enjoy myself

not all the food is spicy. just flavorful like rice and beans, so tasty, and i have a delicate stomach. You could always ask for something mild. This is like a big wedding with flowers and favors and cake and all. try to find something you can enjoy. wear your Kimona and enjoy yourself. Tell us about it when you get home.

Spicy doesn't bother me. I love spicy. But I have gluten sensitivity and also corn and milk so it's pretty limited what I can have. Eating out with the gluten sensitivity is a nightmare and something like this will be the worst.

I have gluten intolerance too, eating at gatherings can be a nightmare. I "love" it when people say, oh this is okay it doesn't have wheat, I made it w/ white flour.

I've never heard of this occasion either. Sounds like wedding attire is what you should wear.
