Help please! I have a problem with my machine.
The other night I cleaned my machine like I have done hundreds of times, put it back together & started to sew & the feed dogs fell down. Nothing happens when I try to raise & lower them with the switch. I have never, in the last 35 or 40 years of sewing, experienced a problem like this before. Does anyone know if it is something I can fix myself or does it have to go into the Dr.? I am not very mechanically inclined but if someone told me what to do I probably could do it. It is a Singer Quantum Stylist 9960. Thank you!

Hi Annette,
Great name!
Since you've already checked the switch, and you obviously know your machine well enough to know if it needs a rotation of the handwheel to bring the feed dogs up; two thoughts come to mind... (1) the feed dog adjustment screw has become loose; (2) the feed dog linkage has gummed-up. With either one, I'd suggest taking it to the Dr. Because you'd need to take the bottom off of the machine, find and identify the screw and linkage, and they just don't make these computerized Singers very consumer friendly.

I was going to suggest turning the handwheel as well. Had the same thing happen with a friend's (then new) machine. I wasn't familiar with turning the handwheel to release the feed dogs so she took it to the doc - presto! Thankfully it was a no charge fix.
