Default Printer ink

Have any of you used the "generic" inks available for some printers instead of the "brand" name inks?

If you have, were you satisfied with the products?

I have used the refilled cartridges before but wasn't really happy with them. They don't seem to have as much ink but that may be my imagination. I went back to HP XL cartridges from Office Depot. Occasionally they give great coupons, still expensive but at least with the XL sizes I don't have to purchase as often.

Yes, I do use them and find no difference. I've heard that shaking the cartridge when it starts to get low (with brand name or generic) will keep it going for a while longer, but not find that to be the case.

No. i've heard bad things on refilled ones too, so grit my teeth and pay for new ones when i need them. and by a well known company.

We refilled them once and were not happy with the results. The machine had fits about it...telling us everytime we wanted to print (it seemed) that the cartridges were 'unauthorized." Well. We went back to HP and the XL ones which do seem to have longer life. It's expensive, so we are careful with what we print.

I've been perfectly happy with refilled ink cartridges that I got from Kaboodle when I lived in Oregon. However I recently bought some no-brand cartridges on eBay. The seller worked with me, and I wound up with several black cartridges that worked (none of the color ones would work in my printer) but I'm finding that they don't last long. I won't be buying them again.

I only use HP cartridges. HP is relatively inexpensive and I've had good luck with them.

I bought a store brand once from Office Depot. My printer would not recognize the black cartridge, so I had to return it. The color cartridge worked, but I always got a message that the cartridge was almost empty. Never again.

My DH refills our cartridges. He also bought some sort of little gizmo that re-sets the cartridge after he fills it so we don't get that message that the cartridge is almost empty. He's been re-filling for several years now & it has saved us a lot of money. Some cartridges are almost the price of a new printer these days.
