teaching my granddaughter to quilt
My 30 yr old grand daughter Phoebe has gone back to school and is taking art courses. She emailed me a couple weeks ago that she wanted to learn to quilt as part of a fabric and colors course. I was delighted!!!!
Sat we got together and I taught her the basis -- squares, half square and quarter triangles and how to get all those points to match perfectly.
Most importantly -- how to look with new eye at a design and break it down to the basic shapes
We had fun!!!

This is wonderful! I have a 3 yr old granddaughter who sits beside me while I hand quilt. She sits in my lap when I use the sewing machine. She has an interest in learning whatever I am doing. I'm hoping she will carry on this tradition when she is a little older, as no one in our families has this artistic desire She "helped" me make her baby doll a blanket, and she was so proud of it!

How wonderful to be able to mentor your Granddaughter -- all my grands (tho much younger) have learned to sew with me. One granddaughter has really taken off with sewing -- just wish more kids had the opportunity to work with their parents or grandparents to learn this life long hobby!

how fun for you!! I have a niece who's 31 and she just started getting into quilting. I am so excited to be able to help her. She is ambitious.. wants to complete 3 for Christmas
She has her first one done. The second one is piece and she is quilting it
I am so glad to have another quilter in the family!!

Great. I have 3 granddaughters in elementary school.
My 7 YO likes to watch and help. The other two get distracted pretty easy, so they don't like to do anything but starch and iron fabric, then off to more fun things.
