Does anyone have and information on this machine? It's one of the 17 i recently acquired. I can get a small straight stitch going but that;s it.

Open up the top and get a good look at the camstack - is it cracked? Then look around for other plastic parts. Are they broken?I have one in my junk pile with a broken gear in the free arm somewhere - I don't know if it is worth the trouble to replace.

I think I have one of these, anyway I know it's orange. It was given to me at a TOGA a few years ago and it's in storage. Miriam is right, look for something cracked or broken. Or something stuck that needs oil, heat and time.

Miriam, yours probably has a broken hook drive gear, remember my National Princess?

Very likely the problem - I haven't been over there much the last two years. Seems like it was a fine machine other than broken plastics.

Discovered the problem, a very gunked up stitch regulator lever. A lot of oil and scrubbing with a toothbrush and now got it working.

Great! I was hoping that's all it was. Mine isn't in near as nice shape as yours is.

With yours is the needle to the left for the straight stitch? I know its not the original foot (didn't have one so I popped one of mine on it) it zig zag fine and within the foot opening. And grom the needle point to the arm is exactly 7 inches. But sewing its off centre from the foot.

To be honest I have no idea. I took it straight from the car and put it in storage so I've never messed with it. the truth is, I accepted the machine not because I really wanted it (IIRC it looked as though it was ready for the dump) but I wanted the fairly nice case it's in.

Hello Cari,
I too recently purchased a Brother Riviera 1781 as well, it works quite nicely! Super cute machine too. Mine is missing parts such as the extension plate and the two orange round lever knobs on the upper portion of the front of the machine, the carrying case the manuals, and a couple other small parts too. Soooo... I was wondering, since you stated that you had one "not because I really want it", then maybe, just maybe, you might be willing to sell me some of the parts I'm missing from mine. I know its a long shot to ask, but I'm sure hoping its accepted.
Thanks so much,
Joyce
